Activities / Aktiwiteite

Christmas Meal

Annually we have various activities at the school to expose our learners to outside activities, as well as to raise funds for the school.

During each year our “Kersete” committee raise funds to ensure a delicious Christmas meal. Cool drink, cake, ice-cream, food and a sweets packet are given to all learners.

Kersete

Light It Up Blue Walk

The Autistic Department of Jannie Brink Special School has been hosting the “Light it up Blue Walk” since April 2016 and henceforth it has been an annual highlight during April, the reason being that April is the month for autism awareness worldwide. Our main goal was to create awareness of autism among all the different communities in Kimberley.

Our second goal was to raise funds with which we could equip more autistic classes with the necessary resources.  We currently have five classes for autistic learners.

Our third goal was to create an opportunity for learners to have a fun walk with their parents, friends and family and in the process also learn how to socialize with members of the community.

The “Light it up Blue Walk” is indeed a highlight on the calendar of the Autistic Department!

Light It Up Blue Walk

Team Building

Keeping 67 staff members together sometimes needs a special team building event . We had such a team building day on the 18th of March 2020. The committee decided on a “potjiekos” competition. It was really an enjoyable day. The groups had to work together and with no idea what the ingredients would be, a very successful event was concluded. We had lots of laughter and teased each other.

Spanbou

Ons was in groepe verdeel.

60 Years/Jaar

of Success / van Voorspoed

On the 7th of February we celebrated the school’s 60th birthday. This was a glamorous occasion, with three former principals, each delivering a speech.

Our learners were spoilt with cake, cold drinks, hotdogs and a packet of sweets.

Down Syndrome Stars

In October our school and Yonder had a very successful function for awareness promotion of Down syndrome. The key note speaker, Tertia Oosthuizen, (a Springbuck athlete), inspired all present and emphasised that no matter what, but with perseverance, hard work and self belief one can achieve and ensure that your dreams come true.

Our learners’ stage performance was outstanding. We appreciate the involvement of Yonder who has boarders with Down syndrome.

Mr and Mrs du Toit donated a down syndrome banner to the school. The school is really grateful for their contribution.

Downsindroom Stars

Dit was ‘n uiters suksesvolle funksie met ons hoofspreker Me Tertia Oosthuizen, (‘n Springbok-atleet).

Farewell 2019

On Thursday, 12 September 2019, we had a farewell function for our 18 year old learners. Those learners will leave our school at the end of 2019.

The learners looked extremely beautiful. We were very proud of them and with a bit of sadness we realised that they had grown up.

It was the last time for Mrs Erica Van Deventer to organise this auspicious event. It remains important for her to dress the learners for one evening, so that they can also experience such an event. Thank you, Mrs Erika and the farewell committee, for all the planning, fundraising, organising and purchasing of dresses, etc. We appreciate your efforts. The school wishes her and all 25 our learners all the best for their future.

Afslkeid 2019
